How To Use Spices to Add Flavour to Your Cooking

Spice is known to add loads of flavour to cooking and it is a known fact that using condiments and spices gives colour, taste and in whole make a meal more enjoyable. The type and level of use of spices changes from each person’s Platte. While some may enjoy very spicy Asian food using chili and curry powders some prefer peppery food that loosens up your sinuses rather than feeling like your mouth is on fire.

Whichever it is spices need to be used in certain quantities and levels depending on what you are preparing. It can be difficult to decide how much of it goes into which but it is mostly trial and error, so do not be discouraged if it does not taste exceptional on the first try. However, there are a few hacks to ensure you get the maximum use of spices when cooking.

Where is it sourced from?

Spices are grown all over the world. They come from different countries and each one has its own flavour and texture. To ensure you get the full use out of the spices you must find out its origin. The list is endless when it comes to where spices are sourced from so be sure to do prior research before purchasing. It may be difficult to get the exact type you are looking for but there are plenty of substitutes which will do the job perfectly.

Storage is key

The most common reason for spices to lose taste is due to bad storage. You cannot let moisture get to it which causes it to spoil faster. They should ideally be stored in separate containers that are air tight so they are able to last longer.

One of the other benefits is that you get jars with the name of each spice that double up as cute accessories for your kitchen. You will definitely be inspired to cook with these spice jars when you see them arranged on your counter waiting to be used. Do not store them in direct sunlight and keep them away from damp or moist places. Storing them a safe distance from the fire would be ideal too.

Switch up

You might be used to your regular spices that you know work great. However, it does not hurt to switch some of it too. Dishes such as pastas can use varied spices to bring out different flavours especially when making styles of cuisine. Do not stick to the same combinations and experiment with the quantities so you get them right.

Different cuisines

If you are a chef of your own kitchen, cooking is an enjoyable experience. So, trying out new dishes from all over the world will defiantly educate you on the various types of herbs and spices. This will also mean you will learn which country’s produce best suits certain dishes and where you can get authentic spices from to fit the meal you are trying to prepare.
